My vision about loudspeakers and the Mach speakers
Share
Many Hi-End loudspeakers on the market have low efficiency, low dynamics and complicated crossovers that erase many details and adds phase distortions. What we wanted to achieve with the Mach speakers is a line of loudspeakers, generous in efficiency, with high dynamics, full of details, with great sound naturalness.
About Mach philosophy, the entire Mach project was born to get a crossover-less speaker. A broadband, or a broadband group, married in high frequency with a tweeter or with a group of tweeters.
The tweeter, or tweeter group, must be cut at the bottom, using a single capacitor, therefore a first order filter and the cutoff frequency of this high pass filter must be above 5,000Hz.
This was our starting point.
The necessity that pushed us in this search for maximum naturalness.

This was our starting point.
The necessity that pushed us in this search for maximum naturalness.
Unfortunately, the sound of all the broadband I know is nasal, annoying in the mid-high frequencies. To avoid this, it was necessary to mechanically filter the broadband with damping material.
This intervention has brought the parameters of the woofers to unusual values, compared to normal woofers. The next step was to find a woofer loading that best suited our driver parameters.
Surely the transmission line could have its say, albeit with questionable linearity in the emission of low frequencies. We therefore thought of this sort of short transmission line, which works in slight compression.
The result was extraordinary!
The bass of the Mach is fast, articulate and very deep. Truly stunning.
I must admit that I would have given up even a little bit on the super-bass,
to obtain the naturalness I personally aspired to. However, the bass achieved with our atypical solutions turned out to be immensely beyond my expectations.
The results obtained with this particular upload excited us to the point of making us understand:
<< this is an extraordinary thing, it deserves to be identified. Let's give it a name! >>
Its name is an acronym that describes what it is:
S.R.T. Semi Resonant Tube.
Good, the ingredients are these:
- mechanical filtering for broadband
- atypical parameters
- dedicated loading: S.R.T.
We have been able to combine these ingredients for many recipe
Now follow me in this cause-and-effect dance:
- The length of the tube requires lower resonance frequencies than the broadband.
- This increases the mechanical filtering treatments
- Therefore the greater weight of material added to the membranes has two effects:
1) reduction of the response at high frequencies
2) slowing down at transients of the single driver

2) slowing down at transients of the single driver
SOLUTIONS:
in point 1)
we adjust the tweeter cut, according to the high response of the broadband.
Each model has a different tweeter cut.
For example, the Mach4 have the tweeter cut at 13.263 Hz,
while the Mach36 at 7,863 Hz.
in point 2)
use multiple drivers. That is, by increasing the number of drivers, the speed and transient response are enormously increased.
This also makes speakers with lower resonance frequencies very fast.
even more, the greater number of drivers compensates for and overcomes the greater weighting of the membranes.
Following the example above, the Mach36, although they require the tweeters cut at 7,863 Hz, they are extremely faster and transient responsive than Mach4,
which drivers can afford to cross the tweeter at 13,263 Hz.
which drivers can afford to cross the tweeter at 13,263 Hz.
